Acute Inpatient Services

There are 58 inpatient beds across 2 floors. These beds are divided by catchment area; ground floor servicing Waiora Clinic catchment area and first floor servicing Junction Clinic catchment area.

There is also a 4 bed state wide intensive care unit (APICS) on the ground floor.

Referrals to inpatient services can be discussed with the Triage Service on 1300 363 746.

Crisis Assessment and Treatment Service (CAT)

CAT provide a 24 hour, seven day a week acute assessment and treatment program to people who experience a mental health crisis in the community living within Alfred Psychiatry catchment area.

Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT)

The Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) provides support and consultation to primary care services in Melbourne's Inner South East. The PMHT assists General Practitioners (GPs) and other primary care service providers in working with individuals who have common and sometimes complex mental health problems, particularly anxiety and depression. Services provided include primary, secondary and tertiary interventions, education and training.

Access to psychiatric assessments is provided for individuals referred by their General Practitioner. This service is therefore aligned to GPs practicing in the Alfred catchment area, regardless of the patient's address. The aim is to provide comprehensive assessment and management recommendations for individuals with high prevalence disorders not currently engaged with psychiatric services.

Consultation Liaison Psychiatry

This service provides specialist assessment and opinion regarding inpatients across multiple medical/surgical units at The Alfred, Sandringham and Caulfield Hospitals.

Junction Community Mental health Service

The Junction Clinic is located at 2/12 St Kilda Rd, St Kilda. Phone 9076 9888. The clinic operates from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (HOPS)

This is a 5 day a week service (Monday to Friday.) The team is based at: Junction Clinic, 2/12 St Kilda Rd, St Kilda. Phone 9076 9888.

The team works collaboratively with clients with mental health needs who may be marginalised through their social/psychological or cultural circumstances and therefore difficult to engage in mainstream mental health services.

Youth Early Psychosis

This service is focussed on intensive service provision to those clients between the ages of 16‑25yrs who are experiencing their first episode of treatment of psychosis.

Clopine Program

This service provides training and registration for GPs wishing to provide Clopine therapy for suitable patients with chronic mental illness of all ages. The service provides coordination of care for patients in the Community Mental Health Service.

Community Care Unit (CCU)

The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a community based intensive residential recovery service that accommodates 20 residents. The CCU is situated in a purpose built setting on Alma road, St. Kilda.

Mobile Support and Treatment Service (MSTS)

The MSTS provides intensive, mobile, support services to people living in the community with severe psychiatric illness. The team operates on an outreach model and is available 7 days a week. CAMHS provides a wide range of free services, delivering mental health care for infants, children and adolescents less than 18 years of age, their families and carers.

Mobile Aged Psychiatry Service

MAPS provides a clinical service to persons 65 years or over who suffer from or experience a mental illness requiring specialist psychiatric assessment and management. This service is available to see people in their own homes, which may include a hostel, nursing home, and/or supportive residential service.
